How to score above the cutoff
WBPSC AE Civil cutoff — frequently asked questions
What is the WBPSC AE Civil cutoff?
The WBPSC AE Civil cutoff is the minimum score a candidate must secure in the written examination to be called for the Personality Test (interview). The cutoff varies each year based on the number of vacancies, number of candidates, and the difficulty level of the paper. Official cutoffs are published by WBPSC after the result declaration.
What was the WBPSC AE Civil 2020 cutoff?
WBPSC does not always publish an official subject-wise cutoff in the public domain. The 2020 WBPSC AE Civil paper had 100 questions for 200 marks with negative marking of -2/3 per wrong answer. Candidates who performed well typically scored in the range of 110 to 150 out of 200 (55 to 75 percent) based on unofficial estimates from coaching sources. Always refer to the official WBPSC notification for authoritative cutoff data.
How is the WBPSC AE Civil cutoff calculated?
The cutoff is the score at which the merit list is drawn for the number of vacancies advertised, typically with a multiplier (e.g. 3x or 5x the number of posts) for calling candidates to the personality test. Scores are calculated as: (Correct answers x 2) minus (Wrong answers x 2/3). Unattempted questions do not affect the score.
What score should I target for WBPSC AE Civil?
Based on historical paper difficulty and available unofficial estimates, targeting 120 to 140 out of 200 (60 to 70 percent) gives a comfortable buffer for the general category. For reserved categories the effective cutoff may be lower. Practise full-length mock tests to calibrate your score under exam conditions with negative marking.
